When the Center is in operation, an adequate number of qualified staff is always on duty to ensure the health and safety of the children. The Center provides staff supervision meeting the requirements of the New York State Office of Child & Family Services (NYSOCFS) and the criteria of the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs, a division of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
- The Professional Staff of the University at Buffalo Child Care Center promotes the physical, intellectual, communicative, social, cultural and emotional well being of each child. Our staff of Lead Teachers, Teachers and Teacher Assistants are carefully recruited and screened. All are qualified by education and experience.
Members of the teaching staff are supported in their activities by the following administrative and support personnel:
- The Director of the University at Buffalo Child Care Center is the Chief Operating Officer of the Center, and is responsible for all aspects of the management of the Center, including: children’s health and safety, staffing, program, counsel for parents, and financial stability. The Director’s paramount responsibility at all times is the physical, emotional and psychological safety and welfare of the children enrolled at the Center.
- The Assistant Director works with all staff to coordinate and integrate educational activities into the full program and work together with the Director and other staff to foster an atmosphere of goodwill, open communication and teamwork. Under this leadership, the staff members are trained to express warmth, understanding and sensitivity to the needs of each unique child in the program.
- The Business Manager is responsible for the financial management of the Center. Duties of this position include handling the accounting activities of the Center.
- The Administrative Assistant is responsible for registration and maintaining the waiting list as well as assisting the Director, Assistant Director, and Business Manager in the daily operation of the Center
- The Receptionist monitors people entering and leaving the Center, responds to telephone inquiries and handles many other tasks as well.
- The Center Nurse is a registered pediatric nurse who visits UBCCC weekly to instruct staff on the health care of all children, especially infants and toddlers, as per Erie County Health Department regulations. S/he reviews medication administered, reports of illnesses and accidents, and is available for consultation with parents and staff.
- The Volunteers, Work Study Students, and Substitute Teachers are carefully supervised additions to the staff of the Center. College students often act as interns or participate because of classroom assignments. All volunteers are screened and subject to the same requirements by NYSOCFS as is regular staff.
- The Board of Directors determines and controls all fiscal and policy matters pertaining to the UB Child Care Center. The composition of the Board includes representatives from the UB Employee Unions (Civil Service Employees Association, Public Employees Federation, United University Professions, Council 82, Graduate Student Employees Union (GSEU), and Management Confidential), UB Student Government, Fisher-Price, Inc., and parents of Center Children.

The University at Buffalo Child Care Center is one of the first programs in the country to achieve accreditation in the reinvented NAEYC Accreditation system. Click here for more information.
